The “Carrera Panamericana” was an epic race that began in the 1950s and attracted many of that times leading drivers. To pay tribute to this event TAG Heuer launched the Carrera Chronograph in 1963, and it was an immediate success.
Over the intervening years, the Carrera has been modernized but still retains its sober elegance. The Carrera is an avant-garde chronograph inspired by motor racing and continues to exemplify the vibrant memory of the era of “gentleman drivers.”

Audemars Piquet has produced this limited edition chronograph watch as a tribute to the “After-School-All-Stars” Foundation created by Arnold Schwarzenegger. Click image to enlarge
It is quite similar to the watch done to honor Shaq, and the specifications are mostly the same except for a distinctive pink gold case. It also has the same exclusive Audemars Piguet selfwinding movement, including the chronograph functions.
The “After-School All-Stars” Foundation offers extra-curricular activities for middle-school children. The aim is to provide pro-active support for 7- to 14-year-olds who, particularly in underprivileged circles, are often left to their own devices after school, and thus to help them resist violence, gangs and drugs.
Their motto is “Kids who have no place to go end up going nowhere. Kids with some place to go end up going places.” Tutoring and help with homework are provided, along with games that combine leisure and learning opportunities, and personal enrichment programs.
They also help kids acquire independent learning skills, and teach a fun-oriented approach to literature, math and science, how to develop personal talents, plus anger management, conflict resolution and money management.
In short, they nurture the self-confidence of these young citizens and encourage their successes, whether in the family, at school or in society.
Audemars Piquet is proud to offer this chronograph watch as a way of showing support for the Foundations efforts.
Audemars Piquet or AP, renowned more than 130 years for their unique watch making craftsmanship, has teamed up with basketball legend, Shaquille O’Neal to issue this limited edition masterpiece.
Since his debut in 1992, to shattering the 25,000 point barrier in 2007 with the Miami Heat, Shaq has become an iconic figure within not just the NBA, but through various charity venues in which he stays active.
At over 7 feet tall, he’s certainly a formidable figure on the court, but outside of basketball, his modesty, sense of justice, and generous nature show another side of his commanding presence.
Shaq’s involved in activities ranging from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, playing Santa at his annual Shaq-A-Claus events, to getting his masters degree and preparing for an eventual career in law enforcement.

In launching this new watch that bears Shaq’s name, Audemars Piquet honors not just one of the greatest ever NBA players, but an outstanding individual who tries hard to be a role model worth emulating.
As is fitting for Shaq himself, this chronograph comes with a massively oversized stainless steel case with a diameter of 48mm. On the case-back is an engraved Shaquille O’Neal logo.
A particularly unique feature is Shaq’s number 32 shown distinctly on the dial by reversing the hour markers at 2 and 3 o’clock. Also by making these two numbers red and leaving the other markings white, the Miami Heat colors are incorporated into the design. This is further enhanced by a red second hand and red stitching.
Two editions of the watch are available. First is the stainless steel version shown above, of which 960 were produced. It has a retail price of $27,900.
The second version, shown here on the right, was limited further to 96, and features an 18-carat white gold case set with 32 brilliant-cut diamonds around the bezel and red rubies to distinguish the 3 and 2 on the dial. Both are references to Shaq’s famous number 32. Retail price is $75,800. Click image to enlarge
